Candles in general make wonderful gifts for any occasion, whether it’s for a birthday, an anniversary, or special event, candles especially scented candles, will be adored by any recipient. People love receiving gifts that are handmade and unique and scented soy candles is an excellent way to give a handmade one of a kind item to your recipient. In this article I will discuss ways to make your own homemade highly scented soy candles at home that your recipients will cherish for months. First and foremost you have to gather the following materials.

  • Soy Wax that’s made for container candles
  • Candle Fragrance oil of your choice
  • Candle Dye
  • Pre Assembled  Wick
  • Jar  that’s designed for candle making
  • Double Boiler
  • Thermometer
  • Melting Pot
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Wick Bar

Now that you have gathered your materials above, there are a couple of important factors you should keep in mind while making your candles. First you should use a soy wax that is high quality and has a decent fragrance load. This is very important when it comes to how fragrant you’re scented candles will be and when it comes to how long it should cool before pouring in your scent. You may also want to make sure that the fragrance oil that you use for creating these candles is 100% concentrated and not alcohol based. If you use alcohol based fragrance oil, the fragrance oil is usually cooked off before you had the chance to pour the wax into the container. The second important factor has to do more with candle safety, never leave your melting wax or hot wax unattended. Now that we have gone over the basics let’s start making some candles.

Step One~Gather all of your materials and have them easily assessable.

Step Two~Pour your soy wax flakes into your pouring pot and melt the wax using a double boiler. Using your thermometer make sure the wax gets to 160 degrees.

Step Three~Stir the wax as it melts with the wooden spoon so that it stimulates even melting of the wax, continue until completely melted.

Step Four~When the wax has completely melted add in your dye and stir completely so that the dye is complete adsorbed into the wax.

Step Five~Once the wax has completely melted and the dye is completely adsorbed, remove the melting pot from the double boiler and let cool until the temperature reaches 125 degrees.

Step Six~once the temperature has reached 125 degrees add in 1.6oz of fragrance oils per pound of wax, and stir until the fragrance is completed mixed through the wax. For a highly scented candle you can add in a little more fragrance oil depending on the type of soy wax you are using.

Step Six~pour your melted wax into your jar.

Step Seven~add your wick and hold it in place with a wick bar.

Step Eight~Let the candle cool for six hours or until completely solidified, and then enjoy.
